A couple of Canadian bloggers put their services up for auction on eBay last week in order to raise the profile of blogging and provide companies with an industry expert to guide them.
Jeremy Wright of Winnipeg was the first to post on eBay and Darren Barefoot of Vancouver was close behind. Readers of this blog will recognize Darren’s name as he set up our blog and has also spoke to a full house recently at eBC on the topic of blogging - he’ll be back in February for a repeat performance.
If you’ve been considering starting you own company blog but don’t have the internal resources to get one started - here’s your chance. Darren knows his stuff and will be able to start you down the blogging path for good.

When I tell small business people about this blog, its great commentary and tips on e-business, they are always excited to read more. But I know that most of them are secretly wondering what a blog is, how it works, and why we’re using one? When asked, I explain what a blog is and why it is an excellent publishing and marketing tool… but that is not always good enough.
The wonderful thing about the Internet is that you can research and learn more about any topic at any time. One of my favorite resources for reliable explanations of how everything around us actually works is How Stuff Works. If you’re still wondering how blogs work, I suggest you check this site out. While you’re there you can learn how aircraft carriers work, how sequential gearboxes work, and how digital cameras work. They say knowledge is power.

If you are considering China as a target market online, there are a few metrics you should know. eMarketer reports that, though Internet users in the country are expected to pass 200 million by 2007, (currently users stand at just under 100 million – that’s a scarce 7.5% of the population) for the next 10 years, Internet access will probably only be available to relatively wealthy city dwellers.
In terms of demographics, the first wave of users consists predominantly of students under 30 years of age, with little disposable income. And what is the average income of this market? By 2009, the average citizen is expected to make approximately $2000 per year. After paying the bills that doesn’t leave much for shopping online…

We’ve recently had some requests for online survey and quiz software to help keep website users interested, and collect important market data from customers. One such product we’ve found is called Zoomerang. Zoomerang offers easy to use, Internet-based survey tools allowing customers to design and send surveys and analyze the results in real time. You can use the free survey tool and send simple, zoomerang branded surveys and view them online for a limited time. Or, you can purchase the zpro version which allows you to develop surveys which are more complex and white label the product to maximize your own branding efforts.
And, in case your worried about your users’ privacy, I checked the company’s privacy policy which states they will not disclose or distribute your — or your respondents — personal information with out your express consent.
