Paper says 2005 saw the most computer security breaches ever; more than 55M Americans exposed.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - 2005 saw the most computer security breaches ever, subjecting millions of Americans to potential identity fraud, according to a report published Thursday.
Over 130 major intrusions exposed more than 55 million Americans to the growing variety of fraud as personal data like Social Security and credit card numbers were left unprotected, according to USA Today.
The Treasury Department says that cyber crime has now outgrown illegal drug sales in annual proceeds, netting an estimated $105 billion in 2004, the report said.
At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security’s 2005 research budget for cybersecurity programs was cut 7% to $16 million.
It is difficult to gauge the true number of security failures because many companies are unaware they’ve been hacked, the paper said.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Podcasting is a term coined when the use of RSS and other syndication technologies became popular for distributing audio content for mobile devices. Today podcasting is a more generic term that is evolving as people understand what it means.
A podcast is simply a web feed of audio files (although increasingly people are applying the term to video and other media) that is placed on the Internet for anyone to download. It’s usually possible to download the files directly from the website, just as one would normally do; however, special programs called podcatchers exist that let users subscribe to podcasts in order to automatically download and store the media files for later playback.

A new survey has been conducted by EmailLabs concerning B2B e-newsletters.
“Almost 70% of B2B e-mail newsletter subscribers have a preview pane in their e-mail program and always or frequently use it, making it crucial that publishers and marketers consider how their mailing looks when previewed.â€
49.1% of subscribers only read the first few lines of their emails to decide whether or not they should read further and 25% don’t even download images in their preview pane with 20% who rarely do; that leaves even less of a chance that subscribers will continue on reading since newsletters don’t look as attractive with a bunch of text and empty image boxes.
A few tips to help would be to email yourself your newsletter and see how it looks in your preview pane, remove any administrative information from the top to the bottom and replace it with “In This Issue†information. Also, remove any image headers and replace with 2-3 inches of text/html only.
